Verdant Village Alpha Launch

This will be a fairly short devlog, but I felt I should post something. As of right now Verdant Village has officially been posted in an alpha state on itch.io. This has been a long time coming, I’ve been working on implementing as many features as I can for close to a year now. While it is far from complete, I think the basis of the game is very much intact. As for the future I’ll be continuing to update this version as much as I can, as quickly as I can. The first priority will be to handle any bugs that players find to get this version as stable as possible. From there the next major system on the docket is archaeology. However, alongside that should be more NPCs, specifically ones that integrate into the archaeology system as well as ones to make already finished content actually available to the player in game, mostly other stores or quests. More zones will also be added to expand the map. Aside from those things I’ll be taking a look into what I’ve dubbed the “topic” system. The dialogue for NPCs is fairly basic at the moment, but I’d like to expand it out with this system and eventually integrate in friendships, and romance, etc. I’m still drafting up exact details on that system for now, but I’m sure more information will follow. For now, if you are reading this, I hope you enjoy the first version of Verdant Village.

I have question will you have game-pad compatible?

I hoping it had that one ability because I tried it nothing. So with game generally it was pretty good except I don't understand fishing concept

I think that my big hurdle currently, cutting trees takes too much energy, growing food and eating it there no description what character learns about crops give you best energy.

I think one thing I didn't understand I had wood but fed stove right, some issue came up is there a way store wood in stove or not? Because bottom of stove/cook option there unknown option I clicked all my wood vanished.  Not sure it has no picture so I have no idea what happened I didn't add to trash so don't ask me.

What the heck, all quests require lot wood I guess I have remember building bridges in old days too lot wood. They didn't build them with plastic trees.

Chopping forest on farm has good one option place barn/coop and among other things. for future if not: fish farm, orchard, vine crops one crop you grow bigger and renewable but dies at end of season, BBQ pit item that you take with you everywhere,  I like to see furniture added to house you get Health, stamina and relationship bonus some furniture charms people like they do in real life.

I hope you do have somewhere implemented to growth with village learning about NPC ppl in game.

I do like your sleep and save method its revolutionary.  I can think of numerous games in several games that could used it but jeez you sleep two times in one day it pretty cool.

I kind glad I don't have sickle a grass but gathering wild crops makes me think if I had some sort merchant out there who would trade me seeds for rare plants?

I kind wish I see like flowers seeds and tree fruit to plant in next update. Are there fertilizers?

It might be lengthy but I had lot think about game and it was pretty interesting. Currently I have play through quests.

Hey there, thanks for playing the game. Whew, that’s a lot to address, I’ll try to answer what I can. As for gamepad support, I would like to, and plan to, have it at some point. It isn’t high on my priority list at the moment. Currently, I’ve been asked for re-bindable keys a lot so that’s on the docket at least.

I’m curious to know which part of fishing you don’t understand? From what I’ve seen I know people tend to struggle with the minigame at first but once people do it a couple of times I think they get the hang of it.

Tree chopping does take quite a bit of energy at the start. I know the early game is a bit of a slog due to high stamina costs. I may end up adjusting costs at some point but I have to consider it a bit before just making changes. The best advice I have is just level up your axe skill and upgrade the axe as soon as you can, should make it easier.

As far as the cooking UI goes, yeah I’ll admit it isn’t the most intuitive. I have it on my list of things to look at. You’re wood shouldn’t just disappear but I’ll do a once over for bugs. What should be happening is you add wood to the oven which raises the “heat” counter right above it. Most things need a certain amount of heat to be cooked.

As for quests, yep, a lot of early quests require basic resources. All the quests in the game right now are the early ones. Later ones will require a wider array of things to complete.

I’m not quite sure I understand the next paragraph, so I’m sorry if this isn’t an answer. You can build a few buildings on your farm right now, barn, coop, stable, and well I think. There are plans for more buildings in the future. You can plant an orchard, you can buy saplings from Remi on the days she comes into town. There are also renewable crops, when you buy seeds from Lylah the description should tell you if they are renewable. A BBQ pit or something of a similar nature wouldn’t be a bad idea for mobile cooking, I might take that idea. As far as furniture goes if you do quests (specifically for Simeon) you can unlock furniture blueprints which you can order from the shipping chest and place in your house. You do gain have a stamina skill, I think it’s called endurance, that will give you more max stamina. Once combat is in the game you will have health. There is a lot planned for NPCs that I won’t go into here but rest assured they will be some sort of relationship/friendship mechanics in the game. At the moment I’m just trying to get them all in the game first.

Foraging will play a bigger role in the game once some other systems are implemented, but I do like the idea of a merchant that trades in plants. I’ll have to keep it in mind.

As I said further up you can get tree saplings to plant an orchard, just find Remi outside the general store on the days she is in town. Flowers are something I considered and didn’t follow through on. Perhaps in the future I’ll pursue them. As for fertilizers they don’t exist yet, I have plans however.

I hope I answered everything you mentioned. Again, thanks for playing, I’m glad you seem to be finding some enjoyment out of it.

i encoutered a bug.

i tryed to enter the house in the top right of Amberglen the message "this area of the game has not been implementet yet" but i did enter, and i was is blacness and had to close the game down.

i started the game up and tried it again, not it also says that the door is locked.

is some of the doors not blocked proberly.

just tryed to enter a watchtover at the castle amd same thing happend.

but i think the game is very promising. :)

Hey thanks for the reply, I’m glad you enjoyed the game at least somewhat, and I’m sorry that happened to you. I believe I know exactly what the issue is, more of an oversight on my part than a real bug I think. I’ll get to updating those two areas as soon as I can, and double check the others, I thought I had them all taken care of, but I guess I missed a few. In any case thanks for reporting that, it’s very appreciated.
